[ the world shifts around them, and murphy wouldn't notice even if his eyes had been open, even if he hadn't had half his face buried in emori's hair, tears blurring up his vision, light headed from all of this... everything. everything around them changes suddenly, and quietly, while he kisses her like he couldn't breathe from the last time he'd seen her herself until this second.
it's the brilliant, gleaming blue-green light off to their right that eventually pulls his attention, bleeding through the small crack of his eyelids only barely opening, prompting him to lift his attention just enough to look for a second. arms still holding emori close and tight, murphy's chin tilts up, eyes widening, as he scans from the huge, glowing metal circle nearby, to the city beyond it, technologically advanced in a way not even the Ark had been, all shining edges and perfectly polished surfaces.
a single, horrifying thought comes to mind. ]
Tell me this isn't what the City of Light looks like.
[There's something that feels wrong, unsettling even as they kiss. It's a blur of sensations that could have meant anything, especially after all that had happened but she turns her head, eyes wide as he looks around them. She's glad that she can feel Murphy's arms and the warmth of him close to her because that feels real, that can't be in her head.
What she sees, is certainly not the City of Light. It's really nothing like it, which is more confusing to her than if they had suddenly come upon it. Is this another trick?
She pulls away from Murphy, trying to take in the sight more clearly.]
No...It's nothing like this. [It does not hold the same feeling either.]
[ it just seems appropriate, doesn't it? he'd just gotten her back, they'd just killed ALIE, they'd finally become safe, and now this. just another day on the ground.
and yet, nothing on the ground has done something like this, yet. pulling back from emori, he doesn't completely disconnect from her, moving to slide his hand into hers (the clean one, not covered in Ontari's blood), lacing their fingers together, something that speaks a little too much on how scared he is to lose her. the other moves to his leg, pinching himself sharply - yep, still hurts. it can't be ALIE, then. but if not her, then what? ]
Clarke? Bellamy? [ Murphy's calling out, eyes skimming over the crowds around them - all foreign faces. Some not even human.
There seems to be a few people looking some kind of official, but rather than wait for one of them to spot him and Emori, Murphy's giving her a tug towards the side of the platform, looking to sneak away. Maybe they're here to help, but he's not willing to bet on it. ] Come on. Before they see us.
[Emori half expects Murphy to pull away from her but she feels his fingers lacing with hers as her eyes take in the world. Most of it is completely and utterly unfamiliar, tech like nothing she's seen and she's seen a lot.]
John. [She starts when he calls out but quickly he gets to the same conclusion she had come to. They didn't want to be see. She follows him, her eyes glancing back to the potential officials but honestly finding information out another way seems more advisable than this.
After all, neither them are very clean or presentable looking and perhaps they could get blamed for something or if this were somehow another program... Could it be another program and defeating ALIE was just trick?]
I've never seen any place like this. [She keeps her voice low. At least from looking at the crowd there had appeared to be have been a variety of beings so maybe in fact they wouldn't draw too much attention to themselves.]
[ if nothing else, the two of them know they're good at being sneaky, crafty fucks. if there's anyone murphy could have at his side while trying to survive, it'd be emori, even before you factor in the part where he's romantically fond of her.
she's smart, she's quick, and they think well together - it's easy for them to be on the same page when they start to run. ]
Me neither. [ murphy huffs, and they dodge and weave past other confused crowds, ducking behind pillars and fixtures. ] Probably a good reason why we should get the hell out as fast as we can.
[ hands clasped, murphy uses the other to shove one door after the other open (leaving a black smear of ontari's blood behind that he'll be more concerned about later), weaving through halls and alleys and city streets. it isn't until they've put some manner of distance between themselves and the ingress platform they'd arrived on that he tugs her into an alley, and pauses, turning back to look her over. ] Are you okay? Get hurt in the fight at all?
[ There's something that's strange about it, the way that their behavior is clearly so far from normal. It's not that she's ever been normal but this didn't feel like the City of Light by any stretch of the imagination. For one, there's certainly pain and discomfort.
She doesn't have a retort for him as they're still moving but where was here for them to get out of and to go where? Nothing felt right about this place, or it's not that it felt wrong as just uncomfortably unfamiliar. It's a relief when they finally stop, though. She's tired. Her muscles ache, perhaps from the climb, or the fighting. It's hard to know but the running had been taxing even if she's never going to admit it. ]
I'm okay. [ Now that they aren't running the urge to start apologizing again wells up and she bites it back, her arms going around his neck and pressing close to him. It felt like they were in a nightmare that just isn't going to end, which she's pretty damn good at surviving and so is Murphy and at least she had herself here. ]
[ they make a good team, and they've never needed anyone else beyond themselves - if anyone's likely to survive this place, it'll be the two of them, working together. if nothing else, murphy thinks, having no sign of clarke and bellamy honestly improves his chances more than not. they have a habit of finding situations that'll make more bodies, and murphy never intends to be one of them.
now, he ends to make sure emori isn't one either. maybe that means he'll end up risking more himself with someone attached, but she's worth it, he thinks. she'd been worth it to go up the polis tower, worth it now as well, and as he tugs her close again, arms around her back squeezing her tight, he can't help thinking how grateful he is that, for once, he was wrong about 'here, when someone leaves, they don't come back'. ]
I'm good. You know me. [ survivalist. which is in pretty direct contrast to the fact he'd gone up that tower on a suicide mission just to get her back, but that ought to say more about his feelings for her than anything else. more than he can get past the lump in his throat, that he swallows back against, as murphy ducks his head to kiss at her temple again. ]
Let's find some place to hide out for now. Food, some clothes that don't make us stick out so much. [ he lifts a hand, petting over her cheek, back into her hair, looking over her features with a pained kind of longing. he'd missed her. ] Get some rest.
[ Emori does know John Murphy and that's why she's not completely sure that he is good or is as good as he says. They're alive, that's what matters at the moment, later, if they find a safe place better than this there might be some further discussion to be had. For now, they needed to figure out where they were if not why they were there.
All she knows for sure is that it is not the City of Light. ]
Maybe something to wash your hands with [ She adds, a hint of a smile and it's not that the black blood bothers her all that much but maybe... a little. It would be nice if they could clean up a bit but food and clothes are certainly more important. She leans into his touch and more than ever it feels real. He feels real and even if there are so many unknowns she really couldn't have been happier. ]
[ john murphy is very rarely completely good, but with emori here with him, and safe for the most immediate part, he's better than he's been in a while. she's the only thing he's found on this planet or the ark worth wanting, and god, does he feel like things are finally okay now that he has her back. okay enough for him, at least. the rest is just Same Shit, Different Day.
he's reminded of that when she mentions his hands, and murphy's eyes trail back down to the blackness drying on his palm. ] Yeah, that'd be nice. Getting kinda morbid.
[ that whole experience was just... something he'd like to wash from his mind forever, thanks. bowing his head, murphy touches his forehead to hers, quietly soaking in her presence, before he reluctantly pulls away, taking her hand in his again, tugging her down the alley. ]
Guess we'll find out. Think they have clothes lines here?
Just now getting morbid? [ She questions him playfully, a smile curling on her lips easily. Her eyes close when their foreheads press together and their faces so close like they're breathing the same air and for a moment she can almost forget everything else but this small space that she and Murphy share. ]
That's probably also something we'll find out. [ As they're moving down the alley her eyes are now searching for clothes that might be hung out. What kind of city was this? It's utterly unfamiliar even if there are bits of pieces that seem similar to something else she might've seen once or twice. ]
Ah there! [ She points down further where there is a blessed clothing line with actual clothes on it -- who knows if there's going to be anything that would work for them though. ]
[ Murphy leaves it at that. He knows what bed she is talking about and knows where it is. He keeps his pace at a decent stroll, doesn't want to bolt directly into the room. That would make him look a little too desperate even if he was feeling a little starved of affection.
A few passing minutes later and his head pops into her (their?) room.] Did you order one John Murphy? [ Murphy smiles, contemptuously. ]
[ Emori is on the said bed that they generally share and she smiles when she sees him come in, stretching out on the bed and patting the open spot beside her with a mischievous sort of glint in her eyes. ]
[ Her smiles are always contagious, just pulls at all his heartstrings, and he smiles right back at her. ] Okay, good. I thought maybe I went to the wrong room[ , Murphy teases, slowly stepping into the room. He toes off his boots and walks right out of them before he even hits the edge of the bed. ]
Okay, so you wanted to hear all of my random thoughts, right? [ He lays back onto the empty spot she has for him. It's his designated spot. Murphy is laying on his side, the side that faces her. His elbow digs into the mattress and the side of his head is propped by the palm of his hand. ] Like how I related everyone to characters from Lord of the Rings?
[ That draws a laugh from Emori, Murphy has that effect on her. She watches him as he settles in and raises a brow. ]
Well, if that’s really how you want to spend your time. [ She could tease him back just as easily, but she reaches to pull his free hand into hers, fingers locking with his. ]
[ Murphy is quiet, his blue eyes slowly tick around her face ]. Well [ , he drawls. ] It's just one of the ways I want to spend my time.
How do you want me to spend my time? [ The edges of his lips curl into a contemptuous smile. Slowly Murphy dips his head down to press a quick kiss onto her lips. ] You want to be my Samwise? Or are we Merry and Pippin?
[ His chest swells with confidence and shakes out a soft chuckle. Murphy likes it when Emori laughs at the stupid things he says, makes him feel like he's good at something. And that's the one thing he wants to do, make her smile and laugh.
She deserves that and all the stars in the sky. ]
Yeah [ ,he agrees. His voice has gone soft that it crackles a little. A soft noise hums in his throat as she directs his face to her. Her soft lips on his, the kiss speaking more than words could have.
Murphy's slowly turning himself in a more comfortable position on the bed. A hand rests at her hip, fingers drumming beneath her shirt. ]
[ Emori kisses him openly, affectionate and inviting the kiss to deepen as she tastes his lips. Her hand slid back and curled into the back of his hair, skin tingling where his fingers could be felt on her skin. ]
You know I love you. [ She whispered against his lips, grinning. ]
[ He breathes her in gently, the soft notes of herself have become a very comforting smell. Murphy just wanted to bury his face into her hair but he was enjoying the kiss more. Subtly, he takes up whatever space that was between them, presses himself against her.
And his hand moves to settle onto the small of her back. ] I love you Murphy murmurs. His soft and warm puffs of breath dance over her lips.
[ Sometimes it feels so strange to have found love at all. It was the sort of world that Emori would have been more likely to believe love didn’t actually exist before there was Murphy. But she arched slightly into him as he pressed into the space that had been left between them.
She’s happy and it’s in large part because of him, because of this and everything they’d made together.
Her hand slid down the back of his neck, and then around his shoulder and down his back until she reached the edge of his shirt to pull up. ]
